International Criminal Court
Committee Information
Committee type: Single Delegation
Established in 2002 when the Rome Statute received 60 ratifications, the International Criminal Court of the United Nations is meant to try some of the worlds most dangerous criminals in the eyes of law. The first arrest warrants issued by the court were in 2005, and it’s first judgement was issued in 2012, finding Thomas Lubanga Dylio guilty of war crimes regarding child soldiers. The court has faced much criticism, and some governments refuse to recognize the court’s jurisdiction in their land. Being the world’s “court of last resort”, the ICC has arrest warrants out for both Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu at this moment.
The people being tried at Qualia MUN are:
A: Julius Robert Oppenheimer
B: Yasser Arafat
These are subject to change, as the two figures are very controversial today - and may spark unwanted animosity between delegates, chairs, and other people at QMUN. Regardless, we hope you enjoy our International Criminal Court, and we look forward to seeing you there.
Robin Stratton
Hello Delagates!
My name is Robin Stratton, and I will be chairing for the International Court at our Model UN. I also have the honor of being your Deputy Secretary General.
I started Model UN in sixth grade, starting out with a small grade-wide committee in the classroom, to now chairing for an official school model UN. This has been a very valuable journey for me, and I hope this MUN can also add valuable experiences to your own journeys as well.
I look forward to seeing you all in council or our ceremonies!
Best,
Robin Stratton | Deputy Secretary General, Committee Chair, International Court
