Penn Desser
Hello Everyone,
My name is Penn and I will be your co-chair for the World Health Organization.
I have liked my model UN experience a lot. It is very interesting and one of the few opportunities for someone of my grade to get a good grasp of the political world. I have also been to the UCLA MUN event where I was a delight of Armenia and in class I have enjoyed doing research, participating in class discussions, and engaging in mock assemblies.
I look forward to seeing you all in Committee.
Best,
Penn Desser | Committee Chair, World Health Organization
Committee Information
Hello ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the first Qualia MUN WHO Committee! Now some of you may be wondering what the WHO even is? Well not to fret as I, your host for today, shall help. On April 7th, 1948, as a merger of the League of Nations Health Organization and the International Office of Public Hygiene. The agency's first major action started in 1950 with a Mass Tuberculosis Vaccination Campaign. The WHO is also responsible for eradicating smallpox, along with treating Polio, TB & Malaria along with currently helping to contain AIDS/HIV. The WHO currently is working on slowing the spread of Mpox & Covid along with debating issues such as universal healthcare, tracking communicable diseases & working on fighting obesity, addiction, childbirth related mortalities & sexual/reproductive health.
This year however you will be put in the shoes of a delegate for the World Health Organization, helping navigate & influence public health policy around the world from topics ranging from Obesity to Covid & potentially more! Our specific focus however will be on fighting or minimizing the dangers of processed foods & the obesity crisis along with containing and eradicating Covid-19. You will be imagining various creative solutions on tackling the obesity crisis whether it be through careful marketing campaigns or perhaps outright bans on certain foodstuffs while having to carefully consider its repercussions on the greater world. Meanwhile our second topic, Covid-19 eradication & containment will be quite the challenge, you as the WHO, will have to focus on containing a multipronged crisis of fighting misinformation around Covid-19 along with attempting to catch up current vaccine progress with the ever evolving virus.
The fate of the world's health lies in your hands, so tell me, delegates, are you prepared to fight for the world's future? Or will you succumb to eternal debates & deadlock…
Noah Uyeki
Greetings, Delegates,
I would like to introduce myself to all of you. My name is Noah Uyeki and I have the great honor of serving as the chair to the Qualia MUN WHO Committee. I cannot begin to express my joy at being able to have this opportunity and hope to use it as a great learning experience. I myself am a recent member of MUN only having started last year but I have been grateful to be able to work with as many people as I have met during my time in MUN. I hope to see all of you soon!
Sincerely,
Noah Uyeki | Committee Chair, World Health Organization
